Dawn of the Solar Eclipse: Camping Under a Shadowed Sky

The rhythmic chorus of a thousand peepers serenaded us awake, a symphony heralding the dawn of a special day. The sky, clear and expansive, held the promise of a celestial spectacle – a solar eclipse. Honey Pie, my ever-enthusiastic canine companion, perked up at the first rays of sunlight, eager to embark on our adventure.

This camping trip wasn't just about enjoying the great outdoors; it was about capturing a once-in-a-lifetime event. With Honey Pie by my side, we explored the verdant woods while awaiting totality. The anticipation crackled in the air, mirroring the warmth of the crackling campfire where breakfast was soon underway. With bellies full and spirits high, we readied ourselves for the main event – the eclipse.

Without the proper DLSR photography gear – namely a solar filter and a telephoto lens, the best shot I could get of the eclipse itself was just through my phone. So I sent the drone overhead, and documented the eclipse's shadow over the forest and fields with a hyperlapse. Not the best example, but I am still learning how best to utilize the many features of the drone. Still, very cool to experience how dark it truly got during totality.

As things returned to normal and the afternoon began to cast long shadows, the aroma of sizzling kebabs filled the air. A refreshing Greek salad added a touch of cool contrast to the smoky grilled goodness.

And with that it became dark as the sun set behind the horizon. We lit the bonfire, lamps and cozied in for some snacks as the peepers continued their harmony.

As always, thanks for watching and see you next time!
